Hornsea Owl Shaped Coaster Set: Stylish and Functional Home Decor

Hornsea Owl shaped Coaster Set of 4. Hornsea Design Director, John Clappison, originally drew these fantastic owls for a range of ceramic cruet sets, produced in 1967. Magpie have redrawn these super cute animals from the original illustrations archived in the Hornsea Museum and created new ceramic moulds for cruets sets and money boxes, glazing them using authentic Hornsea colours of the period. We have also made these cork backed die-cut coasters. Gift boxed, each set has two yellow and two blue owl coasters. Wipe clean with a damp cloth. Hornsea Potteries was founded in 1949 by brothers Colin and Desmond Rawson. This quintessentially British brand made ground breaking designs all through the following decades until its final closure in 2000. The Hornsea legacy remains an important inspiration to many illustrators and artists today. With full access to the archives at the Hornsea Museum, this is the first range of products re-designed and released under official licence by Magpie.More about  Magpie x Hornsea

Hornsea Potteries was founded in 1949 by brothers Colin and Desmond Rawson. Driven by a wide array of design influences, the pottery quickly grew from being a purveyor of seaside tourist trinkets to the largest studio pottery in the world, employing over 700 people.

Hornsea’s rapid growth was generated by widespread popularity and inspirational design. Hornsea developed unique and ground-breaking techniques and designs.

Trading for 50 years before closing in 2000, Magpie has started re-manufacturing some of their greatest designs, starting with the illustration works of John Clappison.

As avid mid-century fans, Magpie feels that the legacy of Hornsea shouldn’t be forgotten and should be loved by future generations too.
